Some do it for health and fitness, some for relaxation, and for some out of habit. My reason for doing yoga was actually surreal. I just wanted to have a photo of myself doing a yoga pose in scenic places.
But when I started doing yoga, my “why” has changed. Or should I say, I have added some things to my “Why” list.
Being In The Moment
As the exercise allows me to focus on my alignment and balance, it gives me time and space to put aside distracting thoughts and be in the moment.
Taking A Break
While the Savasana pose aims to keep us relaxed but awake, 5 minutes of it is all I need to snooze to make up for those days I am awake until 3AM.
Keeping The Balance
As it aims to be comfortable in an awkward pose, this goes in real life too. Yoga has taught me to keep calm. It helped me connect to my core, to find balance.
The Wind Beneath My Wings
Guiding me through this journey is Chamie Castillo, the yogini behind flow.bythecalmsea. She has been doing yoga since 2011 because it gives her permission to connect with the Self. A yogini from Manila, Chamie decided to settle here in Bohol because it is where her heart is.
I still find those photos cool but although I still want to pose in every place I go, I don’t do yoga just for that anymore.
“The most adventurous journey to embark on; is the journey to yourself, the most exciting thing to discover; is who you really are, the most treasured pieces that you can find; are all the pieces of you, the most special portrait you can recognize; is the portrait of your soul.”
